Depending on the amount of computing power you have available to you, you could actually do all sorts of clever (and/or silly) things. While I was waiting for my special two-way mirror glass to arrive, I started thinking about the various ways in which I might want to use this little scamp. In the future I might decide to create a bigger unit, but for the moment I'm simply creating a proof of concept, so I followed the advice on the Magic Mirror site and ordered a 12″ x 12″ sample of this dielectric glass ($19.95 plus shipping and handling) from. Step 1: Acquiring the special two-way mirror glass In my case, I can start off using my personal notepad computer to display videos and suchlike. All we really require is a piece of the special two-way mirror glass, an inexpensive LCD display, and – optionally – a nice antique-looking frame just for effect. On the bright side, we don’t actually need any special software or sensors and suchlike to construct a proof of concept. However, the cost of the sensor box (without sensors) and the software to run on your computer is $219, which is starting to get a teeny-weeny bit expensive… This box connects to your notepad computer via a USB cable and triggers the software running in the notepad computer to leap into action. You can download a demo copy of this software for free, or you can purchase a full-up version for around $50, which really isn’t too bad.įrom the Magic Mirror site you can also purchase a small hardware “box” into which you can plug a variety of sensors. This software can also present information culled from the Internet such as stock prices, your local weather forecast, and all sorts of other “stuff”. In addition to a bunch of “How To” videos, for example, they've also created some clever software that can display a variety of animated faces on the screen, including a text-to-speech capability so you can get the “talking head” of your choice to say whatever you wish. On the one hand, I have to say that the folks at the DIY Magic Mirror site have done a really good job. So the idea is to take the glass, mount it in an antique picture frame, and hang it on the wall covering our LCD screen. If we place this special glass over a black surface it will appear to be a normal mirror if there's a light source behind the glass, however, then that light will pass through. Next, we acquire a piece of special glass that acts as a two-way mirror. The idea is that we first mount a flat-screen liquid crystal display (LCD) flush with the wall of our house (cutting into the drywall is the part my wife is not going to be deliriously happy about, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it ). Just a few days ago as I pen these words, I came across about a very cool website that describes a really cunning idea called a Magic Mirror ( ). …actually, we'll move on to consider what the face might say in a moment, but first let me introduce you to a few underlying concepts. Suddenly, the image of your guest undergoes a Matrix-like 'ripple' and is replaced with a strange face saying… She (or he) pauses to check her appearance in an antique-looking mirror mounted near the front door. One is that the route line is color coded dependent on speed. There are a couple notable features here. In the map display, your routes are automatically graphed on top of Google Maps or MapQuest. It is able to extract coordinates out of your footage, along with speed, time, direction and even G-Sensor data.īeing able to extract these data points and visualize them is a big plus and primary reason why users download this software. This display is probably the coolest display that Dashcam Viewer provides. I recommend downloading the free model first. Be sure to make sure your model is compatible with the software before making any purchases. I’m sending this footage to the owner who I’ve been in contact with to see if this camera’s data is readable. No location, GPS, or speed data was picked up. With my Nexar Beam, I was able to import my footage, but none of the underlying data was readable. I understand that newer models encode the data so it will be harder for a third-party software like DCV to pick up. On my BlackVue model, G-Sensor data was NOT picked up. With my BlackVue DR900X-2CH, importing files was fine and DCV was able to read my files perfectly, bringing in GPS, speed and direction data. Most likely selecting the entire folder is going to be the most beneficial to you even if you are trying to search for a specific event. You can select either an entire folder, or specific video files. It is one of those things that you need to do once and it’ll stick with you forever. I had to search around to find how to import files, but once I did, the issue never resurfaced. There was a bit of a learning curve in terms of how to import files. If possible, I would like to have a larger timeline or movie scrubber, perhaps accented to stand out. I work in a lot of video editing software and this layout got the job done, but took me a little bit to understand each window’s function. It is simple and gets to the point, but you can tell it is a bit dated. The software doesn’t have the most sleek UI. The software opens up several individual windows, each that can be manipulated and resized. Once installation was complete, which was easy, quick and seamless, I was finally able to open the program. The dash cams I’m using today are the BlackVue DR900X-2CH, VIOFO A139 and Nexar Beam. If you are on the fence on purchasing the software, I’ll take you through my experience with DCV and give you my honest review on how easy it was to use. Often times, this software is buggy, lacks functionality and is limited to their own models.ĭashcam Viewer is compatible with dash cam footage from dozens of models and are more than happy to add your camera to that list if not available. Typically the dash cam manufacturer will provide some software that they recommend using. Margarita Recipes – Easy And Delicious!. The teacher then begins dictating twenty big numbers at a time and the moment she stops, all the children immediately tell her the answer. The children are first told about the functions they’d be working on each day. What we observed here actually left us in complete awe. There is also a grand module level, which is similar to the grandmaster level in chess. In fact, when we interacted with the children in Level 1, they were so excited to move those beads up and down and show us how it's done. The difficulty keeps increasing at every level, and so does the focusing ability of the children. The second level includes visualization where the children actually visualize the Abacus in their mind and do the calculations. Here’s what we observed there: The different levels of AbacusĬhildren of different age groups are engaged in different levels of Abacus Maths learning there are eight levels in total, and the first level starts with children using the actual Abacus instrument. So, we headed to SIP Academy in Adambakkam, Chennai, which combines Abacus Maths, Brain Gym and Speed Writing. We were curious to know what really happens in an Abacus Maths class. People presumably calculated by moving stones or beans around in grooves or on tablets. Legend has it that back then, the beads too were not present. Long before numbers were even invented, people used to rely on Abacus to calculate numbers. Beads or balls can be slid on these wires. The device has rows of wires set inside a frame. What is Abacus?Ībacus is a centuries-old calculating tool believed to have been originated in Babylon about 5000 years ago. So, here is an A-Z guide on everything you want to know about Abacus Maths including how to use the Abacus, and whether it is the right choice for your child. Experts, who vouch for the tool, believe Abacus helps your child concentrate better and calculate faster it is a life-skill, which your child should definitely acquire. In today's world, where everything is instant and on a fast-track mode, teaching Abacus to kids is considered a quick method to learn maths by an increasing set of parents. Every decision you make, every challenge that you face, every moment you go through in life, your mind is your constant companion, and it can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Think about it for a moment.your mind is at work all day, every day. It really is that simple.īinaural beats are a scientifically proven technology for achieving profound relaxation and they can improve your overall health by dramatically reducing the effects of stress in your life. It is an extremely effective way of training the mind to enter a state of deep meditation or sleep without years and years of practice.īy listening to specially prepared sounds known as binaural beats, your mind will gradually adjust its natural rhythms, helping you to become serene and clear minded. Ultimately, while there is little evidence to support the claims for binaural beats, no negative effects have been discovered either.Brainwave Entrainment is a safe and powerful method of calming the activity in your mind so that you can achieve a state of complete relaxation and mental clarity. There is no reason to rule out binaural beats as another genre of music. While binaural beats may not produce outcomes exactly what proponents suggest, music in general has always been seen as a medium for artists to release their feelings and for listeners to benefit emotionally from the experience. The top five search results for “binaural beats” on YouTube have each recorded more than 500,000 views, and regular listeners believe fully in binaural beats as an emotional stimulator. Variations were believed to be due to recognition of auditory signals, rather than direct influence of binaural beats.Īlthough binaural beats might not have a scientific basis, many people still attempt to use binaural beats for meditation, deep concentration and deep sleep. A 2006 study from Japan played the same set of binaural beats to nine blinded and controlled subjects, and they recorded extremely varied results. Several studies have been done to test the effects of binaural beats. Therefore, just because an alpha frequency, which is associated with focus, is generated by binaural beats, the listener will not become immediately alert. However, the reverse is not true brainwave frequencies do not result in these emotional states. But do binaural beats actually create special effects in the brain? Most proponents justify the effects of binaural beats through their ability to create alpha, beta, theta and delta brainwaves this is assuming the opposite of what is known of the function of brainwaves.Ĭertain emotional states like happiness, anxiety and depression translate to certain brainwave frequencies. There are many claims for the effects of binaural beats, and ultimately, if they are proven true, the societal impacts would be enormous. This frequency is then said to be able to create alpha, beta, theta and delta brainwaves, which are associated with various emotional states. These frequencies are used to create a perceived third frequency or beat. Lucid dreaming, deep sleep and better concentration are some of the various effects that binaural beats are claimed to induce.Įssentially, a binaural beat is created by playing two different frequencies varying by 10 hertz in the left and right ears. Theoretically, they produce certain brainwave frequencies that alter a person’s current emotional state to one that is desired. More recently, a new remedy has emerged in the form of what proponents deem a “digital drug,” audio tracks known as binaural beats. Life can be extremely stressful and different people have different ways to remedy this anxiety. Vidmar and Crawford suggest five of them are the most likely. Shlionskiy lists 15 possible natural explanations in two groups: reflections in outer space, and reflections within the Earth's magnetosphere. Long delayed echoes have been heard sporadically from the first observations in 1927 and up to our time. Physicist Balthasar van der Pol helped Hals and Stormer investigate the echoes, but due to the sporadic nature of the echo events and variations in time-delay, did not find a suitable explanation. From where this echo comes I cannot say for the present, I can only confirm that I really heard it. When the principal signal was especially strong, I suppose the amplitude for the last echo three seconds later, lay between 1/10 and 1/20 of the principal signal in strength. I heard the usual echo which goes round the Earth with an interval of about 1/7 of a second as well as a weaker echo about three seconds after the principal echo had gone. At the same time as I heard these I also heard echoes. Unable to account for this strange phenomenon, he wrote a letter to Norwegian physicist Carl Størmer, explaining the event:Īt the end of the summer of 1927 I repeatedly heard signals from the Dutch short-wave transmitting station PCJJ at Eindhoven. Hals had repeatedly observed an unexpected second radio echo with a significant time delay after the primary radio echo ended. These echoes were first observed in 1927 by civil engineer and amateur radio operator Jørgen Hals from his home near Oslo, Norway. |
